![]() ![]() The wide, open, block tread is similarly utterly reliable whatever the conditions. Compared to similarly though tires at each level it’s an acceptable weight too. It’s damped enough to add calm and control but doesn’t feel dead and even the heavily reinforced versions aren’t so stiff they’ll hammer your feet or blow bottles out of cages. Give a great balance of traction boosting compliance but still stay supportive when you’re really throttling it through turns. It’ll handle low pressures without burping. Presuming you got the right carcass weight for your riding (rarely kill a tire = Exo, regular sidewall splitter = Exo+, regular rim dinger = DD, frame breaking, shock blowing animal = DH), your Minion will be a component you completely forget about. This created a prefect rear and front combo for riders who were hitting stuff harder and harder as bikes got longer, slacker and faster and possibly had ten kilos worth of battery and motor on board too. A light dual-ply DD casing and a ‘silkworm’ wrapped Exo+ casing filled the middle ground between the existing ultra-heavy DH and lightweight Exo. SpecificationsĪs well as a retread, Maxxis bulked up the carcass options of all their trail/enduro tires at the same time. Big gaps and serious sipes (central slots to allow the top of the tread to deform to the trail loads) give it a caricature ‘Swamper’ look and make sure it clears filthy conditions as well as that suggests too. The big center blocks got a little bit of High Roller (another leading Maxxis tire model) style ramping to make it look faster which combined with the lean loving L-shape and split square side blocks from it’s big brother, the DHF model. The original DHR was a great tire but the release of the Mk II version a few years back was when back wheel Cinders really crashed the rubber ball. Maxxis Tubeless Ready tyres are the only Maxxis tyres approved for use with liquid sealants.Big, blocky siped tread is ready to grip anywhere but its not the fastest (Image credit: GuyKes) Design Their TR tyres use a standard casing and require the use of a liquid sealant in order to make them airtight. Maxxis Tubeless Ready (TR) tyres provide the benefits of a UST tubeless tyre without the weight penalty. ![]() Tubeless tyres provide the rider with many benefits: the ability to run lower air pressures, which improves traction lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tyre and less chance of flatting since there is no tube. Choose EXO Protection for exceptionally rocky, treacherous trails where the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions is high. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tyre remains unaffected. It is softer and offers more traction than their 3C Maxx Speed, yet provides better treadwear and less rolling resistance than their Maxx Grip.Īn extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tyres. Maxx Terra is an intermediate compound configuration used in select mountain bike tyres. Maxxis offers three different configurations of their 3C Triple Compound mountain technology Maxx Speed, Maxx Terra and Maxx Grip. Maxxis 3C Triple Compound mountain technology uses a harder, longer lasting base layer and two progressively softer top layers in order to optimise traction and stability. The shoulder knobs were borrowed from the legendary Minion DHF and then beefed up to handle duty as a rear tyre with the centre tread being heavily ramped and siped to roll fast and track straight under braking. ![]()
